No. 4 Wolves rally twice in 7th to stun No. 6 Jones

ELLISVILLE – Lightning struck twice for No. 4 Copiah-Lincoln Tuesday night at The Bank.

Down by three in the seventh inning of game one, the Wolves rallied for four runs to win 7-6 and, down by four in game two, scored six in the seventh to rally for a 13-11 victory.

In a rematch of last year's national championship game, it was two, gut-wrenching losses for Jones who has now lost 8 of the last 10 to Co-Lin.

Jones dropped to 17-9 and 4-2 in MACCC play and will have a quick turnaround and travel to East Mississippi Thursday and host Coahoma Saturday.

Co-Lin, 17-2, 6-0, hosts John Melvin on Thursday.

Co-Lin 7, Jones 6

Three-run home runs from Brooklynn Montana and Madelyn Chennault gave Jones a three-run lead in the seventh before two, two-run home runs for Co-Lin allowed the Wolves to steal game one.

Co-Lin led 3-0 after one on an RBI-groundout and two-run homer from Leia Phillips.

But that's all Reanna Nieman would allow until the final inning.

Montana's three-run blast to left tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth and Chennault's first career home run to left in the sixth gave Jones a 6-3 lead.

Taylor Efferson homered to pull Co-Lin within 6-5 in the seventh, and after a strikeout for the second out, a pinch-hit single and Madison Moak home run to center put the Wolves on top 7-6.

Jones got a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh but Efferson struck out the side to seal the win.

Efferson (3-0) got the final five outs in relief of Cara Biswell for the win, striking out four and allowing one hit.

Nieman (9-3) scattered seven runs, seven walks and 10 hits in the loss.

Both teams had 10 hits apiece.

Co-Lin 13, Jones 11

Leading 10-4 after four and 11-7 after six, Jones would allow six runs in the seventh on three hits and what would've been a game-ending error as Co-Lin earned the sweep.

The teams traded four runs in the first.

Jones took control with four more in the third, thanks to Kaleigh Steverson's two-run shot and a two-run error, and back-to-back home runs by Emily Mizelle and Jayden Sawyer in the fourth that made it 10-4.

The Wolves cut the deficit to 10-7 in the fifth on Emeri Warren's two-run single and a sac fly.

Jones got one back in the sixth and took an 11-7 lead into the final inning.

A walk, back-to-back singles, a wild pitch and a walk made it 11-9. After Moak's fly out made it two outs, Kynlee Madere hit a slow grounder to second that should've ended the game but a wild throw allowed another run to score.

After an unintentional intentional walk to Abby Grace Richardson to load the bases, Phillips fought off a 3-2 pitch to left-center to clear the bases and give the Wolves a 13-11 lead.

Jones went 1-2-3 in the seventh to end it.

Mizelle, Steverson and Gracey Harbour each had multiple hits in the loss.

Sawyer (7-4) went the distance, well over 150 pitches, and took the loss after allowing 13 runs on 11 hits and walking a season-high nine.

Karley Rouse (1-0) got the win in relief for Co-Lin, its fourth pitcher used in the game.
