BATON ROUGE, La. –
Meg Vinson tossed a complete-game shutout to lead No. 6 Jones to a 6-0 game one victory before the host Baton Rouge Bears used a three-hitter from Maddie Robinson to get a 4-2 game two win and split Thursday afternoon.
Jones moved to 17-7. BRCC moved to 17-17.
Jones leads the all-time series now, 26-2.
With weather in the Scooba area, Saturday's scheduled doubleheader has been moved to March 21. That means next up for Jones is a national championship rematch with Copiah-Lincoln on March 19 in Ellisville.
Jones 6, BRCC 0
Making her second appearance of the season, Vinson allowed three singles and struck out six to lift Jones to a game one win.
A five-run third blew the game wide open.
Emma Moore had an RBI-double and
Jayden Sawyer hit a two-run homer -- her 10th of the year -- in the big inning.
Jones chased BRCC starter Ashton Duhon in the third, one of four pitchers used for the Bears.
BRCC 4, Jones 2
Solo home runs from
Emily Mizelle and
Meredith Fontenot in the fourth was all the offense Jones could muster against BRCC ace Maddie Robinson.
Bobcat starter
Ava Prejean, in her second career start, walked seven and allowed all four runs in 1.2 innings before
Reanna Nieman closed out the final 5.1 and didn't allow a run on four hits.
