Bobcat softball sweeps opening weekend at The Bank

ELLISVILLE – Five Bobcat home runs in the finale capped a two-game sweep for No. 17 Jones College over Snead State Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.

Jones improved to 4-2 and has won four straight. Snead State fell to 3-7.

The Bobcats continue a six-game homestand Tuesday when they welcome Marion Military for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Tickets are $10 cash only at the gate or $7 online at jcbobcats.com/tickets.

Jones 10, Snead State 2 (6 inn.)

Reanna Nieman tossed a five-hitter and allowed just one earned run and all nine Bobcats in the lineup had a hit for a run-rule win.

Meredith Fontenot's leadoff home run in the second gave Jones the lead for good. Emma Moore added a bases-loaded walk and Jayden Sawyer reached on an error to make it 3-0 Bobcats after two frames.

Jones plated three more in the third on an error and two-run single from Brooklynn Montana who was 4-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Parsons' two runs came off RBI-singles in the third and fifth.

Montana's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth scored Anna Leigh Ashley and Madelyn Chennault for the walk-off.

Fontentot and Arin Dale had three hits each as Jones pounded out 16 hits.

Jones 10, Snead State 3

Jayden Sawyer homered three times and her, Kaleigh Steverson and Fontenot went back-to-back-to-back in the sixth to close out a sweep.

Sawyer's two-run shot in the first opened the scoring. She'd homer again in the third and a wild pitch made it 4-0 Jones after three.

Ella Grace Hood's pinch-hit, three-run homer in the sixth pulled Snead State within 5-3.

After two singles and two pop outs in the bottom of the sixth, the home run party started.

Sawyer hit hers on a 3-1 count, Steverson on a 1-0 count and Fontenot on the first pitch after a pitching change to make it 10-3 Bobcats.
