Jones extends win streak to six in sweep of Marion Military

ELLISVILLE – Jones extended its winning streak to six games with a sweep of previously unbeaten Marion Military on Tuesday, winning the opener 10-0 in five and 4-3 in eight innings in the nightcap.

After dropping their first two games of the season, the Bobcats improved to 6-2.
MMI fell to 8-2.

It's a quick turnaround for Jones as they host Iowa Western Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the first-ever meeting between the programs.

Jones 10, MMI 0 (5 inn.)

Reanna Nieman tossed a two-hit shutout and Brooklynn Montana was 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the leadoff spot for a run-rule win.

Emma Moore's RBI-single in the first got the scoring started.

Montana hit a two-run homer to left in the second to make it 3-0.

Jones blew it wide open in the fourth with seven runs on five hits and two MMI errors. Montana, Jayden Sawyer, Meredith Fontenot, Makynlie Jones and Madelyn Chennault all had RBIs.

Nieman struck out two in the fifth to close out the run-rule win. She punched out nine and allowed just two hits to improve to 3-1.

Jones 4, MMI 3 (8 inn.)

Kaleigh Steverson's walk-off single in the eighth scored Chennault from second and Jones capped a two-game sweep.

Sawyer tossed a career-high 14 strikeouts and homered for the fourth time in three games in the third.

Karlee Pierson's two-run double gave MMI its first lead of the day, 2-0, in the third but it was quickly erased by Moore's double and Sawyer's two-run blast.

Alexandra Erwin tied it for the Tigers in the fifth to eventually force extras.

Steverson's walk-off was set up an inning earlier on a fantastic play at second from Allie Reich. Making a diving play to her left, Reich then came up firing to first for the double play to end a Tiger threat.

Sawyer was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Steverson was 2-for-4 to lead an eight-hit attack.
