Bobcats best Reivers twice

Jones has won eight straight

ELLISVILLE – In the first-ever meetings between Jones College and Iowa Western, the Bobcats got the best of the Reivers twice to extend their season-long winning streak to eight games.

Like MMI the day before, the losses for IWCC were its first of the season.

Jones improved to 8-2 and IWCC fell to 4-2.

The Bobcats head to the Coastal Alabama Coyote Classic Friday and Saturday in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Jones 8, Iowa Western 3

The Reivers struck for two runs in the first, but Jones would send 10 to the plate in its half and score five to take complete control of the game.

Moira Baxter hit a leadoff triple just outside the reach of Bobcat outfielder Makynlie Jones and scored off a wild pitch. Alex Stoner's RBI-single made it 2-0.

The first six Bobcats reached to start the bottom of the first.

Brooklynn Montana singled and came around to score on a wild pitch, Emma Moore walked and scored on an error, Jones drew a bases-loaded walk, Allie Reich singled to score a run and Arin Dale drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-2 Jones after one.

Meredith Fontenot hit a two-run homer to left-center in the second and Reich homered in the third to make it 8-2 after three.

Allie Cromer homered for the Reivers in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Reanna Nieman went the distance to improve to 4-1, scattering four hits, three runs and 11 strikeouts.

Jones 3, Iowa Western 2

Despite getting out-hit 9-4, Jones worked out of multiple jams and stranded nine Reivers on base before a go-ahead double steal in the sixth eventually won it.

Cydnee Schneider hit a two-run blast to left to give IWCC a 2-0 lead for a second straight game.

Jones would tie it in the third on a double steal between Montana and Dale and Jayden Sawyer RBI-groundout.

IWCC threatened in the fourth, fifth and sixth with runners either at second and third or on the corners but stranded six over the three frames.

Sawyer worked out of each inning without allowing the tying run and would finish with seven strikeouts and six scoreless innings.

Sawyer walked in the sixth to put the go-ahead run on and was pinch run for by Elise Jackson

Jackson stole second, advanced to third on Kaleigh Steverson's single and scored on a throwing error by the catcher on a double steal attempt for the game-winner.

The Reivers had runners at second and third with one out in the seventh, but a strikeout and pop up ended it.
