ELLISVILLE – Jones College had a tough night with No. 11 Pearl River here Thursday at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Utilizing a strong inside presence, the Wildcats defeated the Bobcats, 70-43.
PRCC outrebounded Jones, 53-39, and also forced 22 Bobcat turnovers.
Jones falls to 5-18 overall, 1-11 in the MACCC. PRCC is 24-3 overall and 11-1 in the conference.
Aasia Wilson (West Jones) led the Bobcats with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Khyla Ragins (Harrison Central) and
Valencia McFall (St. Martin) each had eight points.
Hama'ya Fielder had 20 points for PRCC. Taylor Johnson-Matthews had 15 points,17 rebounds and seven assists. Avery Young had 15 points.
JC's only lead was 5-4 at the 6:27 mark of the first quarter when Ragins scored. The Wildcats led 15-10 after the first quarter.
PRCC took a 32-16 lead midway through the second quarter when Alexis Arrington made a layup. A Ragins' 3-pointer closed the lead to 42-27 going into halftime.
The Wildcats led 54-34 after three quarters and took its longest lead at 70-39 with 2:31 left to play on an Arrington free throw.
Jones made 16-of-53 shots from the floor for 30 percent, 5-of-15 from 3-point range for 33 percent and 6-of-12 free throws for 50 percent. PRCC connected on 24-of-73 shots from the field for 33 percent, 9-of-46 from beyond the arc for 20 percent and 13-of-18 from the foul line for 72 percent.
Pearl River outscored Jones 28-18 on points in the paint and 30-7 in points off turnovers.
The Bobcats visit Coahoma for a 5:30 p.m. contest on March 4 and end regular season play at home on March 7 vs. East Central.
Pearl River hosts Mississippi Delta on March 4 and plays its final regular season game at Northeast on March 7.
