ELLISVILLE – No. 12 Jones College knocked off No. 11 Mississippi Gulf Coast 6-3 here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats are now 8-0 overall, 4-0 in the MACCC. The Bulldogs fall to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Jones swept the doubles' points.
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) and
Charlie Brady (Australia) beat Gonzalo Cotter and Vicente Faria in No. 1 doubles, 8-4.
Alex Holder (Madison Central) and
Duvan Santiago Torres (Colombia) edged Triston Hill and Duarte Mestre in No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
Dawson Do (Northwest Rankin) and
Hudson Hans (Moss Point) defeated Hiram Havard and Jeremiah Layton in No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
Ruiz beat Cotter in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Do downed Hill in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 and Hans whipped Layton in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Faria defeated Brady in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Mestre beat Torres in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Havard edged Holder in No. 5 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
The Bobcats host Northeast in a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday. MGCCC hosts Hinds on March 5.
