ELLISVILLE – No. 11 Jones College breezed to a 9-0 win over Southwest here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones is now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the MACCC. The Bears drop to 0-4 overall and in the conference.
In No. 1 doubles
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) and
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) beat Sophie Tompkins and Emma Grace Carruth, 8-0, and
Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) and
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) defeated Elise Gillissie and Mary Katherine Gray in No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Maggie Savell (Park Place Christian Academy) and
Annalyn Housley (Nettleton) won No. 3 doubles by default.
Jones did not lose a game in singles.
Hernandez blanked Carruth in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Bennett shut out Tompkins in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Housley beat Gillissie in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, Savell beat Gray in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Tomkins downed Kayla Eby in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Simmons won No. 6 singles by default.
The Bobcats continue league play with a 2 p.m. Friday match at Hinds. Jones hosts No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast in a huge match at 2 p.m. on Feb. 27.
Southwest visits East Central on Feb. 27.
