MERIDIAN – No. 11 Jones College posted an impressive 8-1 victory over No. 19 Meridian here Friday afternoon at the NE Park Tennis Center.
The Bobcats are now 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the MACCC. Meridian falls to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Bobcats swept the doubles points.
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) and
Charlie Brady (Australia) edged Simon Ojeda and Sebastian Vaquero in No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
Duvan Santiago Torres (Colombia) and
Alex Holder (Madison Central) beat Loic Hiss and Denzel Jones in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Dawson Do (Northwest Rankin) and
Hudson Hans (Moss Point) defeated Nathan Smith and Isaac James in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Ruiz whipped Hiss in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Torres downed Ojeda in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (14-12). Do defeated Jones in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, Holder beat Smith in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Hans hammered James in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Brady lost a close one to Vaquero in No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.
Jones hosts Millsaps at 11 a.m. Saturday, goes to Delta State for a 1 p.m. scrimmage on Monday and hosts Southwest in a 2 p.m. conference matchup on Tuesday.
Meridian visits East Central on Tuesday.
