PARK HILLS, Mo. – It was a game of runs Saturday afternoon at Bob Sechrest Field House.
Jones closed out the first half with 10 of the final 12 points and rode that momentum to a 62-43 victory at Mineral Area College for a fifth straight victory.
The Bobcats improved to 12-2 and MAC fell to 10-4 in the first-ever meeting.
Jones got off to a 7-0 start, with
Dimp Pernell scoring the first four points.
But the Cardinals would settle in to take their first lead, 14-13, after a Joseph Scott and-1 and led 16-13 with 6:32 left in the half.
Malik Franklin hit a baseline jumper and
LJ Hackman a wing three for five quick points and Jones closed the half on a 10-2 run to lead 23-18.
Scott had 14 of MAC's 18 first-half points.
MAC got within 36-32 with 12:22 to play, but the Bobcats would hold the Cardinals to just 11 points the rest of the game.
Jones shot 46 percent against 31 for MAC, forced 19 turnovers and won the rebound battle 36-33.
Dimp led the Bobcats with 15 points and nine rebounds,
Avery Thomas II and
Kylan Howze added 11 points and Hackman 10.
DJ Davis had seven off the bench.
Scott had a game-high 20 for MAC, but just six in the second half.
Jones will enjoy some time off before returning to the court Jan. 6 to host Shelton State.
