ELLISVILLE – No. 6 Jones College placed four players in double figures en route to an 87-71 victory over Bishop State (Alabama) here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats took the lead for good on a
Ky Pernell (Horn Lake) layup with 9:10 left in the first half to make it 19-18. A
DJ Davis (Oxford) jumper gave Jones a 37-22 advantage with 3:08 showing in the opening half.
But the Wildcats trimmed the lead to 39-30 at halftime.
Jones maintained control in the second half and went ahead 60-47 with 10:44 left on an
Avery Thomas II (Terry) dunk.
The Bobcats' largest lead came with 2:43 to play at 83-61 on a
Jylan Howze (Gulfport) dunk.
Dimp Pernell (Horn Lake) came within one assist of a triple-double, scoring 20 points with 12 rebounds and nine assists. Ky had 20 points, five rebounds and four assists,
LJ Hackman (Columbus) had 19 points and four rebounds and Thomas had 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Kedar Bodie led Bishop State with 25 points and Treyveon Broadhead had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Jones shot 39 percent from the floor and was 29-of-36 from the free throw line for 81 percent. Bishop State shot 41 percent from the field and 16-of-25 from the foul line.
The Bobcats out-rebounded Bishop State, 43-42, and had 16 turnovers compared to 21 for the Wildcats.
Jones (5-0) hosts East Mississippi on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
Bishop State (3-1) hosts Coastal Alabama-North on Tuesday.
