ELLISVILLE –
Sherline King's fourth straight brace and seventh of the season lifted No. 5 Jones over Southwest Tuesday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Jones stayed unbeaten all-time against the Bears and improved to 8-2 overall, 4-2 in MACCC play. Southwest dropped to 4-6-2, 1-5 in league play.
Southwest gave Jones a 90-minute battle despite an 11-2 shot-on-goal discrepancy.
Hope Welsh's ball over the top from nearly 40 yards out found the feet of King in the 17th minute to break open the scoring.
The Bears tied the match in the 30th minute when
Scarlette Roberts' clearance attempt bounced right off Amari Simmons and into the goal.
Eighty-seven seconds later Jones retook the lead for good, 2-1, on King's second goal from a
Boo Mills assist.
Kiera Schwartz logged nine saves for Southwest, six of them in the second half. Roberts only faced two shots-on-goal.
Jones is on the road its next four matches, beginning Friday, Oct. 11 at Itawamba.
