ELLISVILLE – Called into duty to make her first career start due to injury,
Gracyn White stopped all five shots she faced and
Sherline King netted the game-winner in the 71st minute to send Jones out a 1-0 winner in its final regular season home match.
Jones moved to 11-4 and closed MACCC play 7-4 to draw the No. 5 seed in the NJCAA Region 23/Gulf District Tournament.
MGCCC fell to 9-4-1, 6-4-1 and is the six seed.
White made three, key saves in the final 45 minutes to keep the match scoreless and King found the game-winner in the 71st minute after
Mary Grace Batson won a header deep in MGCCC territory.
MGCCC outshot Jones 12-9 and 5-4 on net but White stopped all five.
King's goal was her 24th of the year which leads the MACCC and ranks fourth nationally.
Jones travels to Itawamba Saturday, Nov. 2 for a 2 p.m. kick in the Region 23 Quarterfinals. The match can be watched live at
