PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Sherline King scored a brace and added an assist to help No. 6 Jones defeat No. 17 Pensacola State 3-1 Tuesday for its third Top 20 win.
It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Bobcats improved to 6-2 while the Pirates fell to 5-3-1.
King broke a stalemate in the 22nd minute off an assist from
Mary Grace Batson.
Batson just missed on a wide-open goal in the 15th minute when she sailed it over the bar.
Batson, however, got another opportunity and made it count in the 63rd minute off a double assisted effort from
Riley Rolison and King to extend the lead to 2-0.
After Maya Figueroa drew a foul in the box, Eda Doganarslan connected on the ensuing penalty kick to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 64th minute.
It stayed that way until two minutes before the final whistle when King was able to push the final to 3-1.
The shot total was deadlocked 11-11.
Scarlette Roberts played a solid 90 minutes and finished with four saves.
Jones travels to Co-Lin on Friday, Oct. 4 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
