PARK HILLS, Mo. – Jones opened up a season-long, five-match road swing over the weekend in Illinois and Missouri with a pair of wins to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Bobcats topped No. 9 Southwestern Illinois College 3-1 on Saturday and Mineral Area College 5-0 on Sunday.
Scoreless through 32 minutes on Saturday,
Hilary Jaén got the Cats on the board first after a great long ball played by
Nataliya Magee on the other half of the pitch.
Gemma Whitchurch extended the Jones lead to 2-0 just after the halftime whistle and
Irianna Evans scored off a rebound off the post to make it 3-0 Jones in the 78th minute.
SWIC avoided the shutout in the 86th minute on a goal by Megan O'Donnell.
Jona Hennings had a season-high seven saves in the win, five of them in the second half. Two Blue Storm keepers combined for 10 saves.
Whitchurch struck first for Jones on Sunday against MAC 2:29 in and would complete her first career hat-trick in the 51st minute. She also added a pair of assists.
Avery Saulter scored in the 13th minute and
Abby Sheriff the 56th in a 5-0 shutout win.
The final shot tally was 22-2 in favor of Jones.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, Sept. 15 at Southwest to open MACCC play. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Summit.
