SUMMIT –
Hilary Jaén scored twice and
Haley James added a goal late as No. 4 Jones blanked Southwest 3-0 Friday at John I. Hurst Stadium night to open conference play.
The Bobcats, 4-0, 1-0 MACCC, remained unbeaten in 34 all-time meetings with 23 shutouts. Southwest dropped to 2-4, 0-1 MACCC.
Jaén scored in the 11th minute and Jones controlled the match from there.
The Bobcats allowed just two Bear shots-on-goal, both of them saved by
Jona Hennings. Former Bobcat Abigayle Green had 10 saves for Southwest.
Possibly the goal of the year for Jones came in the 54th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Gemma Whitchurch flicked a ball over to
Celine Ottah who back-heeled it to Jaén for the finish.
Haley James scored her second career goal, both coming this season, in the 87th minute off another Ottah feed.
Jones travels to Hinds (1-4, 0-2) Tuesday for a 5 p.m. kickoff in Raymond.
