ELLISVILLE – Cards and fouls were aplenty Friday night in a clash between No. 5 Jones and Itawamba. And there was some early excitement too with five goals in the opening half.
Jones held Itawamba scoreless the final 64 minutes and got the go-ahead goal from
Andrew Kravette – the first of his career – to grind out a 4-2 win.
Samuel Hadley gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead just 2:28 in after a cross from
Taylor Richardson was headed backwards by
Denim Lombard to his right foot.
Ian Thomas headed in a Russell Brown cross to tie the match at 1-1 in the 13th minute.
Richardson's team-leading 11th goal of the year came five minutes later to put Jones back up 2-1, but the Indians once again answered with a penalty kick to tie the match.
Kravette's header in the 33rd minute off a Hadley service was executed to perfection to make it 3-2 and the Bobcats never trailed from there.
Broc Bookout added his fifth goal in the 63rd minute to cap the scoring at 4-2.
In a match that was statistically very even, tempers flared late from both sides as they combined for 10 yellow cards, seven from Itawamba.
Jones continues a four-match homestand Tuesday against Meridian.
