Cameron Chamberlain's first collegiate goal in the 20th minute held up as No. 5 Jones edged East Central 1-0 in a physical battle Friday night.
The Bobcats won their seventh straight over EC to improve to 6-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in MACCC play. The Warriors fell to 1-5-1, 1-2.
Jones had tons of chances in the opening 45 minutes and could have had at least a three-goal advantage.
But EC keeper Marcelo Ramirez had six first-half saves, two in one sequence. A goal was also called back after an offsides by the Bobcats and another hit the post.
Chamberlain's goal came off a
Denim Lombard assist, as the freshman chipped it just over the head of Ramirez from point-blank range.
The lead held through halftime and for the final 70 minutes.
Joshua Goodwin posted his third straight clean sheet and finished with four saves.
The final shot tally was 12-6 Jones, EC had four cards, Jones had one yellow and the teams combind for 22 fouls.
The Bobcats open a four-match homestand on Tuesday against Co-Lin.
