SUMMIT –
Loïc Thomas' first career goal lifted No. 6 Jones over Southwest Friday night, 1-0, at John I. Hurst Stadium to open MACCC play.
The Bobcats improved to 5-1-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play and have now won 11 straight over the Bears. Southwest took its first loss to fall to 3-1-2, 0-1.
Emotions ran high all night in a physical match that included 26 combined fouls and three cards, in addition to an ejection to Southwest's Jason Dykes late in the match.
Scoreless into the break, Jones turned up its offensive attack the final 45 minutes.
After just three shots in the opening half, Jones fired 10 in the second and found the game-winner in the 54th minute on Thomas' goal.
Taylor Richardson's shot skipped past the Bear keeper and Thomas caught it on the deflection.
Southwest managed four shots on goal and
Joshua Goodwin stopped all four for his first career clean sheet.
Jones continues a four-match road trip Tuesday at Hinds (4-1-1, 1-0). Kickoff set for 7 p.m. in Raymond.
