ELLISVILLE – It was an entertaining and physical early-season battle between Gulf Coast and No. 5 Jones on Tuesday night, with the final result a 3-3 draw.
Jones stayed unbeaten at home over its last 12 games and moved to 2-0-1 on the year. Gulf Coast moved to 0-1-1.
The Bulldogs struck 3:40 into the match with the first of two goals by Kade Smith.
Denim Lombard headed in a
Taylor Richardson free kick to knot the match at 1-1 in the 14th minute.
The teams exchanged goals in the 23rd and 33rd minutes to go into the break 2-2.
Jones was the aggressor the final 45, outshooting the Bulldogs 12-4 down the stretch.
They fell behind again, 3-2, on a Victor Moerck goal but rallied to equalize in the 72nd minute when
Luke Dickson hit a streaking Richardson inches in front of the goal.
That's how the match would end after 90 hard-fought minutes.
The final shot tally was 20-7 in favor of Jones.
MGCCC was whistled for 14 fouls against eight for Jones. A total of six yellow cards were given out, four of them to the Bobcats.
Jones will host No. 9 LSU Eunice and Andrew College Friday and Saturday.
