BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Two Bobcat goals in a three-minute span early in the second half was enough to help No. 5 Jones hold off Oxford College of Emory, 2-1, Friday night at Dunnavant Valley Fields.
Jones improved to 2-0 on the young season and is now 22-2-1 in its last 25 matches.
Taylor Richardson's fourth goal in two games came off a beautiful free kick in the 51st minute to break the stalemate.
Three minutes later it was
Xabier Souto-Rodriguez who placed it in the lower left corner of the net to make it 2-0 Bobcats.
The Eagles cut the lead in half in the 71st minute and threatened multiple times down the stretch but couldn't equalize.
Jones out-shot Oxford-Emory 20-8, including 7-2 on goal.
The Bobcats return home on Tuesday to host Gulf Coast in the first of three consecutive home games. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
