Smith homers twice as Bobcats end regular season at 43-6

ELLISVILLE – Fifth-ranked Jones College ended the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Baton Rouge here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
 
The Bobcats are now 43-6 and will host the Region 23 Tournament May 9-14. Jones will play the Itawamba/Holmes winner at 4 p.m. on May 10 in its first tournament game.
 
The Bobcats have won 22 straight games and end the regular season with a 22-0 home record.
 
In the top of the fourth, Madison Diaville singled and Alara Taylor followed with a two-run home run to put the Bears ahead, 2-0.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Aaliyah Dixon (Hillcrest Christian) led off with a walk and Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) singled. Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep) doubled into the left-field corner to score Dixon and Lindsey. Kathryn Smith (Luling, Louisiana) followed with a two-run home run over the left-field fence to make it 4-2.
 
Smith ended the scoring with a solo shot in the sixth – her team-leading 19th home run of the season.
 
Hanna Zeitz (Clinton Christian Academy) went the distance and got the win to improve to 12-3. She allowed two runs, three hits, walked one and struck out two.
 
Smith homered twice and drove in three runs. Lewis had a double with Nia Luckett (Philadelphia), Lindsey, Lewis, Sadie Wells (Loranger, Louisiana) and Meg Gatlin (Parklane Academy) adding singles.
 
Taylor and Diaville had BRCC's only two hits.
 
Kristyn Lorman tossed all six innings for the Bears and got the loss. She allowed five runs, seven hits, walked one and struck out two.
 
BRCC, 19-26, ends its regular season by hosting Bossier Parish (Louisiana) on Friday.
