No. 5 Bobcats defeat Holmes in region tournament opener

ELLISVILLE – Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) drove in five runs and Holly Craft (Raleigh) allowed only two hits as No. 5 Jones College beat Holmes 9-1 in six innings in the Region 23 Tournament here Wednesday night at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
 
The Bobcats (44-6) will meet No. 15 LSU Eunice at 11 a.m. Saturday in a winner's bracket contest. LSUE beat No. 11 Northwest 3-2 on Wednesday.
 
Holmes (28-20) faces East Central in a noon elimination game on Thursday.
 
Holmes scored an unearned run on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning, but Jones answered in the bottom of the inning when Lindsey singled home Nia Luckett (Philadelphia).
 
The Bobcats took a 2-1 lead in the second when Luckett doubled home Elise Jackson (Purvis) who had singled.
 
Lindsey's 15th home run of the season made it 3-1 in the third. 
 
Jones took a 5-1 lead in the fifth when Lindsey's sacrifice fly to center scored Jackson.
 
The Bobcats ended the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Luckett's single scored Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central) and Lindsey's two-run single to left scored Luckett and Jackson. Gabby Hoffman's (Florence) single scored Aaliyah Dixon (Hillcrest Christian) with the final run.
 
Craft went 6.0 innings, allowed an unearned run, two hits, struck out 11 and walked one. She is now 16-1 on the season.
 
Lindsey homered and singled twice with Jackson getting three singles. Luckett doubled and singled and Hoffman singled twice. Dixon and Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep) added singles.
 
Starter Elleigh Willis took the loss for Holmes. She pitched 4.0 innings, allowed five runs, eight hits, walked three and struck out two.
 
McKayla Crowley tripled and Lanie Phillips added singles for the Bulldogs.
