No. 14 Bobcats play for men's region crown on Saturday

ELLISVILLE – The 14th-rated Jones College Bobcats will by playing for another region title on Saturday.
 
Jones blanked No. 19 Itawamba 5-0 on Friday morning in the Region 23 Tournament semifinals at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The Bobcats defeated Copiah-Lincoln 5-0 on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
 
The Bobcats have already captured the MACCC championship and will by vying for its second straight Region 23 crown.
 
The Bobcats will meet No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. on Saturday for the championship. The Bulldogs defeated East Central 5-0 in the quarterfinals on Thursday and No. 17 Meridian 5-0 in the semifinals on Friday.
 
Meridian faces Itawamba at 2 p.m. Saturday in the third-place match.
 
The winner of the tournament receives an automatic invitation to the NJCAA Division I Tournament May 15-19 in Plano, Texas.

The Bobcats got an 8-3 win from Tomi Nader (Argentina) and Wallace Brewer (Germantown) in No. 1 doubles over Valentino Millimaci and Marco Kalbermatten. Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) and Dawson Do (Northwest Rankin) won 8-1 in No. 2 doubles over Landon Baines and Lawson Pearson. Hudson Hans (Moss Point) and Prescott Schaumberg (Indianola Academy) blanked Logan Case and Colton Fuqua in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
 
Charlie Brady (Australia) blanked Pearson in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Do clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mitchell Walker in No. 6 singles.

Peoples and Do blanked William Morgan and Houston Walker in No. 3 doubles, 8-0, and Brady and Bevard beat Calvin Moorman and Cade Teeple in No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Brewer and Nader edged Joao Mendes and Tasso Moreira in No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
 
Do defeated Morgan in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Peoples clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Walker.
