Jones sweeps Meridian, extends win streak over Eagles to 33 games

MERIDIAN – Nine different Bobcats picked up a hit in a 14-0 game one run-rule victory and Jones had to hold off a late Eagle rally in the finale to win 5-4 as they swept a pair at Sammie Davidson Complex Tuesday afternoon.

Jones improved to 33-6 overall and 18-2 in MACCC play while Meridian fell to 11-30, 6-16 in the conference.

The Bobcats have won 33 straight games in the all-time series dating back to 2010.

Jones 14, Meridian 0 (5 inn.)

A six-run fourth and seven-run fifth helped the Bobcats to a five-inning run-rule in the opener.

Gabby Hoffman's RBI-single made it 1-0 Jones after two.

The six-run fourth was highlighted by Nia Luckett's two-run single, Aaliyah Dixon's RBI-triple and Lauren Lindsey's RBI-single.

Kathryn Smith homered to leadoff the fifth and was followed by homers from Hoffman and Tia'Rain Saunders. Dixon added her second triple that scored two more.

Holly Craft (11-1) allowed one hit and struckout six for the win. Meg Vinson tossed a scoreless fifth.

Jones 5, Meridian 4

Jones jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three and worked around an Eagle rally in the seventh to hold on for the game two win and sweep.

Meg Gatlin's RBI-single gave Jones a 1-0 lead in the second.

Lindsey and Smith added RBI-hits in the third as Jones extended its lead to 4-0.

Meridian cut the deficit in half in the fourth on Hanna Homra's two-run homer.

Carly Lewis' solo shot to leadoff the fifth pushed it back to 5-2 Bobcats.

Vinson was able to work around three Eagle hits in the seventh to grab her first collegiate save.

Hanna Zeitz (10-3) went five innings with three hits and two runs allowed.
