Jones smacks Delta twice, takes over first in MACCC standings

MOORHEAD – Kathryn Smith homered three times, Gabby Hoffman had seven hits and nine RBIs and the pitching staff didn't allow an earned run in a two-game sweep at Mississippi Delta Thursday afternoon.

Jones stretched its win streak out to 14 games to improve to 35-6 overall, 20-2 in the MACCC.

With Gulf Coast's split at Northwest, Jones sits alone in first place in the league standings with six to play.

The Bobcats host Southeastern Baptist in a single game at 1 o'clock Saturday. Admission is free as part of Alumni weekend.

Jones 22, Delta 2 (5 inn.)

Jones scored in every inning, including 10 times in the fifth, to run-rule the Trojans in the opener.

Hoffman was 5-for-5, Smith 4-for-4 and Landry Dupont 3-for-3 to lead a 25-hit attack.

Carly Lewis got the scoring started in the first with a two-out RBI-single and the Bobcats led 3-0 after one.

Jones doubled five times and homered three times in the win.

Hanna Zeitz allowed a two-run single in the fifth and that was it. She struckout six and allowed four hits to improve to 11-3.

Jones 13, Delta 0 (5 inn.)

Just like the first game of the day, the Bobcats put together a two-out rally in the first to score three runs and never trailed to complete the sweep.

Nia Luckett singled and later scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run.

Lauren Lindsey's two-run double made it 6-0 Bobcats after two.

Hoffman's two-run double, Arin Dale's RBI-single and Tia'Rain Saunders' RBI-single gave Jones a 10-0 cushion after four.

Lewis and Smith hit back-to-back homers to left in the final frame.

Ten different Bobcats had a hit in the finale.

With two hits on the day, Lindsey eclipsed 200 career hits and continues to extend her all-time record at Jones.
