ELLISVILLE –
Holly Craft (Raleigh) hit a walk-off home run in game one and pitched a complete-game victory in game two as No. 7 Jones College swept No. 8 Northeast here Sunday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Craft's pinch-hit, three-run home run capped an eight-run, sixth inning and gave Jones a 12-3, run-rule win in the opener. She then tossed a four-hitter in the nightcap as Jones won, 3-1.
The Bobcats are now 31-6 overall and are tied with Northwest for the MACCC lead with a 16-2 record. Jones travels to Meridian Tuesday, visits Mississippi Delta on Thursday and hosts Southeastern Baptist College on Saturday.
The Tigers, 34-8 overall and 12-6 in conference play, go to Holmes on Tuesday.
Jones 12, Northeast 3 (6 inn.)
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first when
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia) doubled and later scored on a passed ball and added a run in the second when
Gabby Hoffman (Florence) scored on the front end of a double steal.
In the fourth, Hoffman singled and
Aaliyah Dixon (Hillcrest Christian) followed with a two-run home run to make it 4-0.
The Tigers got a run in the fifth and a two-run home in the sixth from Caitlyn Carnathan in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep) walked with the bases loaded and
Arin Dale (DeSoto Central) scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-3.
Kathryn Smith (Luling, Louisiana) then hit a three-run home run to make it 9-3.
After Dixon singled and
Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central) walked, Craft stepped up and blasted a three-run home to end it.
Dixon homered and singled with Hoffman and
Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) getting two singles each. Smith and Craft homered with Luckett getting a double and Saunders adding a single.
Luckett went all six innings and got the win, improving to 9-2. She allowed three runs, five hits, walked one and struck out nine.
Brianne Locke singled twice for the Tigers.
Starter Cassidy Duskin went the first 4.0 innings and took the loss, falling to 9-3. She gave up four runs (three earned), six hits, walked two and struck out seven.
Jones 3, Northeast 1
Craft was superb in the circle, allowing one run, no walks and recording seven strikeouts to move her record to 10-1.
Northeast took a 1-0 in the third when Sarah Hindman led off the inning with a home run.
Jones answered in the bottom of the third when Dixon walked, stole second and scored on Luckett's single to left.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth.
Smith walked with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner
Elise Jackson (Purvis). Hoffman singled to left and the ball got past the outfielder and rolled to the fence. Jackson scored on the play and Hoffman went to second. With two outs, Dixon singled to right to score Hoffman.
Dixon doubled and singled with Hoffman and Luckett adding singles.
Emma Dempsey took the loss for Northeast, allowing three runs (one earned), four hits, four walks with six strikeouts.
Hindman homered with Duskin, Locke and Elisa Claire Young adding singles for the Tigers.
