Hoffman drives in seven, Craft twirls shutout in sweep of East Central

DECATUR – Gabby Hoffman hit a three-run homer, a grand slam and drove in seven to power No. 7 Jones to a 12-1 game one win and Holly Craft twirled a two-hit shutout in the finale to lead Jones to a 2-0 win and sweep at East Central Wednesday evening.

Jones extended its winning streak over the Warriors to 21 games while improving to 29-6 overall and 14-2 in the MACCC. EC fell to 21-18, 6-10 in league play.

Weather permitting, Jones will host No. 8 Northeast on Saturday.

Jones 12, East Central 1 (5 inn.)

Hoffman hit a first inning grand slam and Nia Luckett allowed just a solo homer in the fifth in a five-inning, run-rule victory.

Luckett added to her cause with a solo homer of her own in the second, Hoffman hit a three-run bomb in the third and Lauren Lindsey a two-run shot in the fourth.

Aaliyah Dixon was 3-for-3 and missed hitting for the cycle by a home run.

EC's lone hit came on Emmi Harkins' solo homer with two outs in the fifth.

Luckett punched out nine to improve to 8-2 in the circle on the year and got her 42nd career win.

Jones 2, East Central 0

Craft struck out a dozen over seven shutout innings and Luckett's solo homer in the fifth proved to be the winning run as Jones closed out the sweep.

A double steal between Luckett and Dixon added a big insurance run in the seventh.

The Warriors threatened with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, getting a two-out walk, single and walk, before Craft got an infield pop up to end it.

Carly Lewis had two of Jones' three hits and also added three in the opener.

Craft improved to 9-1 on the year and 18-4 for her career in the circle.
