HATTIESBURG – Two of the top junior college teams in the nation completed their match here Thursday afternoon at Tatum Park.
The No. 10 Jacksonville College (Texas) Jaguars edged No. 14 Jones College, 5-4. The Bobcats led 4-2 on Wednesday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex in Ellisville when rain postponed the match by one day.
Jones took two of the doubles' points.
Tomi Nader (Argentina) and
Charlie Brady (Australia) beat Andres Ayala and Logan Stoltz, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles.
Dawson Do (Northwest Rankin) and
Prescott Schaumberg (Indianola Academy) defeated Brock Dawson and Ian Williams in No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Tanner Bevard (Sacred Heart) and
Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) dropped a 3-8 decision to Edoardo Brustia and Franco Vedda in No. 2 doubles.
Nader blanked Brustia in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Do defeated Vedda in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 4-0 (retired). Brady lost a tough 3-6, 6-4, 1-6 decision to Stoltz in No. 2 singles. Bevard fell to Daniel Pinzon in No. 3 singles, 4-6, 3-6. Peoples lost 0-6, 3-6 to Ayala in No. 4 singles and
Hudson Hans (Moss Point) dropped a close, 7-5, 5-7, 2-6 decision to Dawson in No. 6 singles.
The Bobcats, 13-2, will host Northwest at 2 p.m. on March 21. The match was originally scheduled for March 10, but was postponed by the threat of rain.
Jacksonville plays Wallace State (Alabama) in Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday.
