Bobcats split a pair in Greyhound Tip-Off Classic

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – Jones split a pair of games in the Arkansas State University Mid-South Greyhound Tip-Off Classic this past weekend to move to 2-1 on the year.

The Bobcats return home Tuesday, Nov. 7 to host Piney Woods Post Grad at 6 p.m.

Jones 88, ASU Mid-South 76

The Bobcats were called for three offensive fouls in the first three minutes and fell behind 9-3 early but rallied with a 10-0 run and would never trail again.

Chaunterion Ward capped the run by finding Dimp Pernell for a three-pointer. Pernell had 10 of Jones' first 13 points.

Samarion Grant's three-pointer ended a 16-2 spurt midway through the first half.

Jones built it largest lead at 35-18 with 5:17 left in the half and led 45-35 after 20 minutes.

The Bobcats scored 10 of the first 13 points of the second half to extend their lead to 63-45.

ASU Mid-South got within single digits just twice the rest of the way.

D. Pernell had 26 to lead five players in double figures. Trey Smith, LJ Hackman and Kylan Howze each had 14 points and Ky Pernell had 11 in his Bobcat debut. Howze added 10 rebounds for a double-double.

National Park College 83, Jones 79

Jones led for a majority of the game but faltered late with a barrage of turnovers as National Park edged the Bobcats by four.

Malik Franklin's three gave Jones its largest first half lead at 37-30 and they would take a 41-36 lead into intermission.

D. Pernell had 30 and Ky 23 to lead the Bobcats.

Jones shot 50 percent against 48 for the Nighthawks.
