ELLISVILLE – Jones' streak of consecutive shutouts reached eight matches Friday night in a 2-0 rivalry win over Pearl River.
The Bobcats improved to 10-0, 7-0 MACCC and dropped Pearl River to 8-4, 4-3 in league play.
Jones threatened in the opening seconds of the match, with
Abby Sheriff getting a touch right in front of the net that was saved.
Scoreless into the 30th minute,
Lauren Carothers grabbed her first collegiate goal to put Jones on top 1-0.
Gemma Whitchurch played a cross into the box and Carothers was there to head it in over the top of the Wildcat keeper.
The lead held up until the 83rd minute when
Avery Saulter took a rebound shot from
Caroline Wilson off the crossbar and drilled it home for the goal.
Jones' defense allowed just two PRCC shots on goal, both sent away by
Jona Hennings.
It was the ninth shutout in 10 games for the Bobcats who've outscored the opposition 50-1.
Jones outshot PRCC 12-4, including 9-2 on goal.
The Bobcats didn't allow a goal during their season-long, four-game homestand and travel to Perkinston Oct. 13 for a 5 p.m. kick at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
