Bobcats rally with pair of Ottah goals to down Bulldogs, 2-1

PERKINSTON – Trailing for the first time all season, Celine Ottah and No. 4 Jones rallied for two second half goals over a nine-minute stretch to help the Bobcats rally for a 2-1 victory at Gulf Coast Friday night.

Jones improved to 11-0 overall, 8-0 MACCC with its 11th straight win over the Bulldogs. MGCCC fell to 7-5-1, 3-4-1.

Scoreless at the break despite several near misses for the Bobcats in the first half, it was host MGCCC who struck first.

Morgan Pickering sent a ball into the box from the right wing that was flicked on by Tiffany Beasley and then struck into the goal from Kyla Smith for the 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

It's just the second goal Jona Hennings and Jones had allowed in nearly 1,000 minutes.

Hilary Jaén just missed the equalizer early in the second half on a perfect pass from Gemma Whitchurch from inside the box.

Minutes later Jones broke through on a long ball in from Nataliya Magee. Ottah was streaking down the far sideline and was able to boot it in to tie the match at 1-1 in the 65th minute.

Hennings made one of her three second-half saves in the 71st minute from point-blank range to keep the match tied.

The Bobcats found the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute when Ottah grabbed a rebound shot in traffic and was able to sneak it in for the 2-1 lead.

Riley Davis narrowly missed a third goal for Jones in the 88th minute, clanging a free kick off the crossbar.

Jones outshot MGCCC 20-8 (incl. 8-3 on goal).

Hennings improved to 10-0 between the posts. Leah Capiola had five saves for the Bulldogs.

Jones hosts East Mississippi on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before traveling to No. 1 Northwest on Friday for a 1'oclock kick.
