MERIDIAN – Scoreless at the half, three Bobcat goals in an 11-minute span in the final 45 helped No. 5 Jones defeat Meridian, 3-1, to remain unbeaten on the year.
Jones improved to 6-0, 3-0, while Meridian fell to 1-6-1, 0-3 in the league.
Taylor Richardson started the flurry of goals in the 49th minute, using a couple touches from
Leighton Jameson and
Yussef Hakmaoui to beat the Eagle keeper.
Four minutes later, it was
Leighton Jameson who connected on a penalty kick to make it 2-0. After two Bobcat shots hit the crossbar, a Meridian defender attempted to punch the ball over the frame and immediately drew a card and penalty.
Denim Lombard bent in a right-footed shot just outside the box to make it 3-0 Jones in the 60th minute.
Meridian got on the board in the 73rd minute.
Jones owned a 24-5 shot advantage. The teams combined for 31 fouls and seven yellow cards.
The Bobcats go to Holmes on Tuesday to wrap up a three-match road trip. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on the Holmes-Ridgeland campus. No live stream will be available.
