ELLISVILLE – No. 16 Jones College recorded a big win over No. 19 Meridian here Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats downed the Eagles 6-3 to sweep the season's matches.
Jones improves to 14-0 overall and 11-0 in the MACCC. Meridian falls to 10-4 overall, 7-0 in the league.
The Bobcats got the edge in doubles, winning two matches.
Wallace Brewer (Germantown) and
John Jabour (Warren Central) edged Colin Hartman and William McCullough in No. 2 doubles, 8-6, and
Tanner Bevard (Sacred Heart) and
Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) beat Parker Chaney and Parker Lyons in No. 3 doubles, 8-3. In No. 1 doubles,
Tomi Nader (Argentina) and
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) lost 5-8 to Anton Sarunic and Sebastian Hernandez. In an extra match,
Trey Hilton (Pearl) and
Prescott Schaumberg (Indianola Academy) beat Grant Frank and Cameron Garrett, 8-1.
Vanecek defeated Hartman in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Bevard beat McCullough in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Hilton downed Chaney in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-3 and Peoples whipped Lyons in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Nader lost to Sarunic in No. 1 singles, 5-7, 4-4, retired. Brewer fell to Hernandez in No. 2 singles, 0-6, 5-7.

Jack Owens (Brandon) beat Garrett, 6-4, 6-1 and
Tahir El-Zare (Hattiesburg) defeated Frank, 8-4.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they play two matches in New Albany. Jones faces Northeast at 11 a.m. and Blue Mountain College at 2 p.m.
Meridian hosts Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday.
