Jones is Elite Eight Bound

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Bobcats are still dancing.

Jones knocked off its second Top 20 opponent in as many nights in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, defeating No. 17 Blinn 77-65 to advance to its second-ever Elite Eight.

"I am so proud of this team," seventh-year head coach Missy Bilderback said. "They just love to compete, and honestly, just have fun playing together. The bigger the moment, the better they are."

The Bobcats (24-7) hit a barrage of three-pointers in the final quarter, five to be exact, to run away with their ninth straight postseason victory. Blinn ended its season 28-5.

Jones was ice cold to start the game, missing 16 of its first 19 shots, and trailed 19-10 after one quarter. A strong second, however, put the Cats ahead 29-27 at the break.

Sakyia White recorded her 16th double-double of the year midway through the third quarter and Jordan Clark buried a triple in front of the Bobcat bench to make it 52-51.

Into the fourth quarter and trailing 54-51, Jones caught fire from downtown.

Olivia Knight hit back-to-back threes, Meloney Thames added another and Knight had a steal and layup as part of an 11-2 run. Arianna Patton then banged in a three with under four minutes left to give Jones its largest lead, 65-58.

Jones held the Bucs to 2-of-14 in the final quarter, outscoring them 26-13.

White finished with a game-high 27 points and 19 boards, followed by 24 from Thames, 10 from Knight and seven from Ashlynn Freeman.

The Bucs were led by Skylar Barnes with 13.

Blinn shot just 30 percent on the night against 42 percent for Jones. The Bucs outscored Jones' bench 37-6.

Seeking their first Final Four appearance in program history, the Bobcats will get Friday off before a quarterfinal matchup with No. 16 Eastern Florida State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
