Fourth quarter run sends Jones back to Clinton for region semifinals

EUNICE, La. – Trailing for a majority of the night and by as many as eight in the opening half, Jones used a 17-2 fourth quarter run to race past LSU Eunice, 82-66, Tuesday night and into the NJCAA Region 23 Semifinals.

An hour after defeating East Mississippi 44-39 Monday, Jones left for Eunice on a five-hour bus trip having to play a second game in less than 24 hours. The Bobcats were able to weather a slow start to pick up their 18th consecutive region tournament win.

Jones improved to 20-7, its sixth straight 20-win season. LSUE ended its season 15-11.

LSUE led after each of the first three quarters before a monster fourth quarter for Jones.

Three balls started to fall in the third and fourth quarters, with Jones hitting seven in the second half. Jordan Clark was 5-of-8 from downtown and Meloney Thames was 4-of-12.

Sakyia White had eight of her 22 points in the fourth quarter and Thames had eight of her game-high 23.

Olivia Knight had 11 dimes and Ashlynn Freeman pulled down 12 boards.

The Bobcats shot 44 percent on the night and held LSUE under 30 percent.

Trinity Harold had 18 to lead three Bengals in double figures.

The Bobcats will face Coahoma on Thursday night in Clinton in a rematch of last week's MACCC Championship game. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. on JCJC.TV from A.E. Wood Coliseum.
