Jones successfully opens home slate with sweep of Coastal, LSU Eunice

ELLISVILLE – Bobcat pitching allowed a combined eight hits and two earned runs with 17 punchouts and No. 2 Jones used timely hitting to win a pair of games over Coastal Alabama-South and LSU Eunice to open its 2022 home slate at The Bank.

Jones improved to 7-4, outscoring its last three opponents 22-4 as part of a three-game winning streak. 

The Bobcats return to action on Monday, Feb. 28 vs. Calhoun at 11 a.m. and against Hinds at 4 p.m. Both games are at Rene T. Warren Field on the campus of Hinds.

Jones 8, Coastal-South 2

Nia Luckett tossed a complete-game, three-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Jones to an 8-2 win over Coastal to open the day.

Luckett, Aaliyah Dixon and Carly Lewis had six of the Bobcats' eight hits.

Lauren Lindsey's two-run homer to left opened up a 4-0 Jones lead in the third. Kaelyn Campbell got the Sun Chiefs within 6-2 with a solo shot in the sixth.

Jones tacked on RBI-groundouts by Gabby Hoffman and Holly Craft to close the sixth. 

Jones 5, LSU Eunice 1

Kathyrn Smith and Lindsey each hit two-run homers and Craft was lights out in the circle in a complete-game performance to lift JC to its eighth straight win over the Bengals.

Smith's sac fly gave Jones a 1-0 lead in the second.

LSUE's lone run came off a solo shot by Cendall Barton in the sixth.
