No. 6 Jones extends win streak to five with pair of wins in Raymond

RAYMOND – The sixth-ranked Jones College Bobcats extended their win streak to five games with wins over Calhoun, 12-6, and Hinds, 9-2, Monday afternoon at Rene T. Warren Field as part of the Hinds JUCO Classic.

Jones improved to 9-4 on the young season.

Jones 12, Calhoun 6

In a walk fest early that saw a combined 11 runs over the first two innings, Jones was able to create some breathing room with a barrage of home run balls.

Lindsay Henson's two-run single gave Jones a 3-0 lead after one.

Calhoun plated five in the second aided by two walks, a wild pitch and hit-by-pitch. Alex Ritter put the Warhawks on top 5-3 with a two-out, two-run single.

Gabby Hoffman and Lauren Lindsey homered in the second and both Taylor Duncan and Skylar McLellan homered in the third to give JC an 8-5 advantage.

Lindsey, Iris Farve and Tia'Rain Saunders each added RBI hits to extend the final to 12-6.

Jones 9, Hinds 2

Hanna Zeitz tossed a complete game, four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Jones rolled to its 36th straight win over the Eagles.

A 3-2 ballgame in the seventh, Jones plated six in the top of the seventh. Lindsey had a two-run single, Kathyrn Smith doubled and Sarah Ballard doubled to put the game out of reach.

Lindsey, the reigning MACCC Player of the Week, was 3-for-4 and has now boosted her average up to a team-best .407 with four home runs in five games.

Jones will host Hinds and Lansing in a three-way play date on Tuesday, March 8. Jones plays Hinds at 3:30, followed by a 5:30 first pitch against Lansing. Both games will air on JCJC.TV.
