ELLISVILLE – No. 16 Jones College knocked off No. 20 Copiah-Lincoln 7-2 here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats remain unbeaten at 10-0 and will go to Hinds for a 2 p.m. match on Friday.
Co-Lin, 3-4, will be at home on Friday vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Bobcats took two of the doubles' points.
Wallace Brewer (Germantown) and
John Jabour (Warren Central) defeated Bryce Oster and Lawson Pearson in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Tanner Bevard (Sacred Heart) and
Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) beat Jacob Lofton and Sam Boutwell in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Tomi Nader (Argentina) and
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) lost to Julian Parada and Julian Toloza in No. 1 doubles, 2-8. In an extra match,
Jack Owens (Brandon) and
Prescott Schaumberg (Indianola Academy) beat Rob Johnson and August Sullivan, 8-6.
Nader defeated Parada in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3 and Vanecek whipped Pearson in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Bevard defeated Oster in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2 and Peoples whipped Lofton in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1. In No. 6 singles,
Trey Hilton (Pearl) downed Mason Pounds, 6-1, 6-3. Brewer dropped a tight decision to Toloza in No. 2 singles, 5-7, 6-3, 5-10.
In extra matches, Jabour blanked Caleb Myers, 8-0; Owens whipped Walker Mitchell, 8-1; and
Tahir El-Zare (Hattiesburg) defeated Johnson, 8-3. Schaumberg lost to Boutwell, 4-8.
