ELLISVILLE – The 16th-ranked Jones College Bobcats surprised No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast 6-3 here Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcat win ended a 26-match MACCC winning streak for MGCCC. The last time Gulf Coast lost a conference match was to Jones in February of 2020.
Jones, 9-0, will be at home vs. Copiah-Lincoln at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Gulf Coast, 7-1, hosts Southwest on Tuesday.
The Bobcats took a 2-1 lead after the doubles' matches.
In No. 1 doubles,
Tomi Nader (Argentina) and
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) beat Pedro Molero and Clay Fudge, 8-4.
Tanner Bevard (Sacred Heart) and
Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) whipped Jackson Ward and Alex King in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Wallace Brewer (Germantown) and
John Jabour (Warren Central) lost 4-8 to Paul Gayk and Anderson Dulaney in No. 2 doubles.
Jones won four of the singles' points.
Nader edged Gayk in No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-4 and Brewer beat Molero in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Peoples defeated in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and
Trey Hilton (Pearl) beat Chace Bolan in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Vanceck dropped a 3-6, 6-4, 6-10 decision to Fudge in No. 3 singles and Bevard fell to Dulaney in No. 4 singles, 4-6, 5-7.
Prescott Schaumberg (Indianola Academy) won an extra match, 6-0, 6-0.
