MERIDIAN – The Jones College men's team notched a big 5-4 win over Meridian here Tuesday afternoon at the Northeast Park Tennis Center.
The women's team beat Meridian 8-1 and the Bobcat men edged the Eagles, 5-4.
Jones, 2-0, returns to action with a 2 p.m. home match on Friday vs. Northeast.
MCC, 1-1, goes to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Friday.
The Bobcats took two of the doubles' points.
Tanner Bevard (Sacred Heart) and
Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) beat Colin Hartman and Parker Chaney in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
John Jabour (Warren Central) and
Trey Hilton (Pearl) defeated Will McCullough and Grant Frank in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Tomi Nader (Argentina) and
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) lost 3-8 to Anton Sarunic and Sebastian Hernandez in No. 1 doubles. In an extra match,
Jack Owens (Brandon) and
Prescott Schaumberg (Indianola Academy) fell 7-9 to Parker Lyons and Cameron Garrett.
The teams split the singles' matches.
Vanecek defeated McCullough in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Peoples defeated Chaney in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Hilton downed Lyons in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Nader dropped a 6-7 (2), 2-6 decision to Sarunic in No. 1 singles.
Wallace Brewer (Germantown) fell 2-6, 0-6 to Hernandez in No. 2 singles and Bevard fell in a close decision to Hartman in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 9-11. In extra matches, Schaumberg beat Cameron Garrett 8-4 and
Tahir El-Zare (Hattiesburg) defeated Frank, 8-2.
