TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In a highly-anticipated rematch that came down to a buzzer-beater last time, Shelton State got its revenge thanks to a big second half to pull away for a 71-50 win.
Jones dropped to 6-3, while Shelton State won its fourth straight to improve to 5-3.
Leading 12-10 after an
En'Dya Buford three-pointer in the opening quarter, Jones was held scoreless the final 4:59 as Shelton State took a 17-12 lead.
A 32-29 deficit for the Bobcats at half turned into 15 points after three quarters, with Jones held to just seven points.
The Bucs strung together a 14-0 run after Jones took a 29-27 lead. The drought finally ended on a Buford free throw midway through the third.
Shelton State's lead grew to as many as 24, outscoring Jones 13-4 to start the fourth quarter.
Jones was held to 33 percent shooting against 50 percent for the Bucs.
Nya Valentine led all scorers with 24 points and nine assists for Shelton State.
Buford had 19 points to lead Jones and
Sakyia White had her eighth double-double in nine games with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Jones continues a three-game, non-conference road tilt at ASU Mid-South on Tuesday. The Bobcats won 97-51 in Ellisville back on Nov. 1.
