Jones clinches Gulf South District's automatic bid to Tucson, Arizona

ELLISVILLE – For the second time in school history, Jones College is headed to the NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer National Tournament.

Blake Miller netted his first goal of the year in the 55th minute and Jones held off rival Pearl River, 1-0, in Sunday's region final to clinch the Gulf South District's automatic bid to Tucson, Arizona, Nov. 14-19.

Jones improved to 15-0 and will find out its national seeding on Tuesday. The Bobcats should be the tournament's No. 1/2 seed.

One would argue Pearl River (12-4-1) was the better team the opening 45 minutes and Jones the final 45.

Miller, who came on the second half as a substitute, made his mark 9:52 later.

A ball that was flicked into the box by Logan Stone skipped off the shoulder of one Wildcat and then the foot of another where Miller struck it home in the lower left corner.

Tyler Harris made clutch save after save in the final half to help preserve the win.
