TUCSON, Ariz. – It was not the start the Bobcats had hoped for on the opening day of the NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson.
Prairie State scored off a header 2:56 into the match and added another just before halftime to beat Jones, 2-0, and hand the Bobcats their first loss of the season.
Jones was held without a shot in the first half and the final shot tally was 11-5 in favor of the Pioneers.
Agbokou Geoffroy's corner kick found the head of Leonardo Dutra in the 3rd minute to make it 1-0. Magloire Makila scored in the 44th minute to make it 2-0.
Denim Lombard gave Jones its best chance in the 49th minute, banging a shot off the crossbar.
A red card on
Kelton Keene setup a penalty kick for the Pioneers in the 73rd minute, but it was saved by
Tyler Harris. He would finish with two saves and two goals allowed.
Jones will face No. 7 Mesa on Wednesday at 1:30 CST and will need a win and a lot of help to advance into the national semifinals.
