ELLISVILLE – The second-ranked Jones College Bobcats will be playing for another championship this weekend.
The Bobcats rolled to an impressive 5-1 decision over the Hinds Eagles here Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field in the Gulf South District Tournament.
Jones, now 14-0-0 on the year, will meet No. 12 Pearl River at 6:30 p.m. Sunday for the championship with an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division II Tournament on the line. PRCC defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 1-0 in overtime in the other semifinal match. The Jones vs. PRCC matchup will be aired on JCJC.TV.
Samuel Hadley (Jackson Academy) got Jones on the board quickly in the second minute with
Leighton Jameson (Northern Ireland) getting the assist. The Bobcats got an own goal in the 34th minute to go up 2-0.
The Eagles got on the board with a Dylan Harrigill goal in the 50th minute.
But
Taylor Richardson (United Kingdom) lined a free kick into the net in the 59th minute to make it 3-1.
Rhys McAllister's (Northern Ireland) penalty kick in the 72nd minute made it 4-1. Jones closed the scoring when
Noah Fayard (George County) scored in the 88th minute with Hadley and
Denim Lombard (Gulfport) being credited with the assist.
Tyler Harris (Brandon) was in goal for the entire game and was credited with seven saves.
Hinds ends the season at 5-11-1.
