Bobcats score three goals in final nine minutes to beat CCBC Essex

TUCSON, Ariz. – Leahmae Keogh broke a stalemate in the 81st minute and Jones would score twice more in the final nine minutes to defeat CCBC Essex, 3-0, to open Pool C play in the national tournament.

The victory sets up a Pool C winner-take-all matchup at 4 p.m. Wednesday against top-ranked Heartland.

Jones improved to 12-2-2 and is 3-0 all-time with three shutouts against CCBC Essex.

A flick into the box from Izzie Scott landed at the right foot of Keogh who one-timed it in the corner of the net in the 81st minute.

Meg Giachelli and Gracie Gustafson would follow with goals in the 84th and 87th minutes as Jones pulled away late.

The Bobcats out-shot the Knight 24-8, including 15-3 on goal.

Danae Fowler went the full 90 between the posts with three saves to pick up her 25th career win in goal.
