TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In an NJCAA Top 10 road tilt on Tuesday evening at the Umphrey Center, No. 5 Shelton State jumped out to a 21-point first half lead and never looked back in an 85-69 win over No. 9 Jones.
Shelton State ran its season-long winning streak to 12 games to improve to 13-1, while Jones fell to 7-2. Both Bobcat losses are to NJCAA Top 5 programs on the road.
Nya Valentine paced four Lady Bucs in double figures with 23 points.
Sakyia White had 31 points and 11 rebounds and
Olivia Knight had 21 points and nine assists to lead the Bobcats.
Trailing by 21 early second half, a pair of steals and easy buckets in transition pulled the Bobcats within 13 with under five left in the quarter. But that's as close as Jones would get the final 15 minutes.
Shelton shot 47 percent from the floor against 43 percent for Jones.
The Bobcats return home Thursday to host Northwest Mississippi (7-4, 1-1) in conference play. The game will stream live on JCJC.TV with tip-off set for 5 p.m.
