ELLISVILLE – No. 14 Jones College remained unbeaten in MACCC play with a 93-49 rout over Northeast Mississippi here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats are now 14-3 overall and 9-0 in the league and will travel to Pearl River for a 6 p.m. game on Thursday. PRCC is second in the conference at 8-1.
Sakyia White (Tuscaloosa, Alabama) led four Jones players in double figures with 20 points.
Meloney Thames (Choctaw Central) had 18 points, including four 3-pointers,
Olivia Knight (Pearl) had 12 points – all on 3-pointers – and
Nakyah Jones (Mobile, Alabama) added 11 points.
White and Jones each had eight rebounds and
Mackenzie Thomas (Laurel) had seven assists. Thomas, Jones and
Arianna Patton (Meridian) each had three steals.
Brittney Oswalt was the only Tiger in double figures with 14 points.
Northeast scored the game's first basket, but Jones scored the game's next nine points and never looked back.
The Bobcats led 25-15 after the opening quarter and took its longest lead of the first half at 47-19 when Jones scored on a jump shot in the lane at the 3:07 mark. Jones led 49-27 at halftime.
Jones increased the lead to 75-35 after three quarters and took its longest lead of the night at 93-47 with 1:06 left on a free throw by
Kimaya Dixon (Lafayette).
The Bobcats outscored Northeast 52-20 on points in the paint, 39-15 in points off turnovers and 20-2 on fast break points.
Jones made 38-of-75 shots for 51 percent, 10-of-28 3-pointers for 36 percent and 7-of-15 free throws for 47 percent. The Tigers were 19-of-59 from the floor for 32 percent, 5-of-18 from beyond the arc for 28 percent and hit 6-of-8 free throws for 75 percent.
The Bobcats out-rebounded Northeast 46-36 and Jones had 29 assists compared to 10 for the Tigers.
Northeast, 4-15 overall and 2-8 in the conference, hosts Mississippi Delta on Thursday.
