ELLISVILLE – Jones College began the spring season with a 9-0 victory over Itawamba here Monday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats dominated in doubles.
Tomi Nader (Argentina) and
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) beat Joao Mendes and Rhonzo Olaechea in No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Wallace Brewer (Germantown) and
John Jabour (Warren Central) defeated Russell Moorman and Houston Walker in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Tanner Bevard (Sacred Heart) and
Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) downed Sam Morgan and Bratton Willoughby in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
In an extra match,
Jack Owens (Brandon) and
Prescott Schaumberg (Indianola Academy) beat Stroud Mills and Jackson Feather, 8-2.
Nader beat Mendes in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-5 and Brewer defeated Olaechea in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-5. Bevard rallied past Moorman in No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 and Vanecek downed Walker in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Peoples whipped Willoughby in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and
Trey Hilton (Pearl) blanked Morgan in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
In extra matches, Schaumberg beat Feather, 8-1. Jabour shut out Mills, 8-0 and
Tahir El-Zare (Hattiesburg) beat Caleb Beech, 8-0.
Jones, 1-0, travels to Meridian for a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday and hosts Northeast at 2 p.m. on Friday.
