HATTIESBURG –
Andrew Craig's beautiful strike from just inside the box in the 70th minute provided the game's lone goal, and No. 5 Jones rebounded from its first loss of the year with a 1-0 victory over Southwest Friday afternoon at Southern States Soccer Club.
Jones improved to 4-1, 1-1 in the south while Southwest fell to 3-4, 0-3 in division play.
The Bobcats had numerous scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes and were on the attacking end for nearly the entire period. Jones had 11 first-half shots and had seven corner kicks, but were held off the scoreboard as Cooper Odom had four saves.
Scoreless in the 70th minute, a service into the box from
Brodie Rials was punched out by Odom and Craig was able to grab the rebound and drill it into the upper left corner of the net for the game-winner.
Southwest did not have a shot on target. Jones had nine shots-on-goal, including
Leighton Jameson hitting the crossbar late in the second half.
Odom finished with seven saves for the Bears and allowed the one goal.
Garrett Wise improved to 4-1 in net with a third shutout win.
Jones will travel to No. 18 Meridian on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. kick.
